Prolonged power outages are expected in Ukraine
Chairman of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities Oleg Popenko said that the situation with electricity supply in a number of regions of Ukraine remains critically challenging.
According to him, in Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Sumy and Chernihiv regions there may be no light for half a day, a day or even weeks.
«The situation is very difficult. The Odesa region, where the power grid has suffered serious damage after the latest attacks, remains a problem,» Popenko said.
Causes of outages
Experts name the main reasons for long outages:
massive Russian attacks on energy infrastructure,
shortage of generating capacity,
complexity repair work due to constant shelling.
Power engineers are working on localisation of damage and warn that it may take several weeks to fully restore a stable delivery schedule.
What experts advise
Oleg Popenko recommends citizens to prepare for winter in advance - purchase lanterns, power banks, water supplies and alternative heat sources.
He also called on local governments to Set up heating stations and autonomous energy sources in communities.
