Ukraine already produces 40 Bohdan self-propelled guns per month - Zelensky calls for export launch
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine produces 40 self-propelled artillery systems «Bohdan» every month and has a strong production potential in the drone and missile sector, which could reach $35 billion in 2026. According to him, it is time to bring to foreign markets those types of weapons in which Ukraine has a surplus.
What Zelensky said
Zelenskyy stressed that the production system already allows for the production of 40 Bohdan self-propelled artillery systems per month. He also mentioned the successful use of Neptune cruise missiles and predicted that Ukraine would eventually be able to regularly use its own ballistic missiles as a security element.
«Ballistics is one of the guarantees of security. We have already learnt how to produce Neptune missiles, and the time will come when our ballistic missiles will also work regularly.“,
- Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Figures and plans
According to the President, the projected production of drones and missiles alone could reach 35 billion USD. There are agreements to create export and import platforms in Europe, the US and the Middle East.
Export challenges and opportunities
Exports of Ukrainian weapons require coordination with partners, certification, logistics and control guarantees. At the same time, the opening of new platforms provides an opportunity to scale up the defence industry and increase foreign exchange earnings.
What this means for the defence industry
Large-scale production of UAVs and missiles can stimulate the development of contractors, job creation and technological development. At the same time, the government and industrialists will have to address issues of quality standards, export controls and international agreements.
