Small drones intercept Russian Shakhtys and become a new element of air defence
Ukraine has created a new level of effective counteraction to Russian air attacks, using low-cost interceptor drones. This technology, according to Business Insider, already Changes the way we think about air defence and could become a prototype for NATO armies.
How the new system works
Ukrainian engineers have developed lightweight interceptor drones like hit-to-kill - they physically crash into the target without explosives. Thanks to precise targeting and cheap components, each drone costs ten times less, than an air defence missile.
One device can intercept «Shahed or other barrage munition for a fraction of the price of traditional systems. Thanks to the use of domestic electronic modules, FPV systems and software control, The production is scaled up in the field.
A new approach to defence
Analysts believe that this approach creates «democratic» air defence - available to each brigade. Mobile teams are appearing in the skies above frontline cities, able to respond to enemy drones in minutes.
According to the Ukrainian military, the effectiveness of such intercepts reaches 70-80 %, and their cost is hundreds of times lower than Patriot or NASAMS missiles.
Recognition of partners
Representatives of NATO and the United States have already noted the innovativeness of Ukraine's approach. According to Business Insider, Ukraine is actually creating a new concept of air defence for the future - cheap, dispersed and massive.
At the same time, experts emphasise that such systems do not replace a full-fledged air defence, but only complement it in the fight against drone swarms. The Ukrainian experience can be used by allies in future conflicts.
