Most Ukrainian refugees in Germany are dissatisfied with their lives

According to a study conducted by Deutsche Welle, Ukrainian refugees are much more likely than migrants from other countries, dissatisfied with life in Germany.

Survey results

Among the Ukrainians surveyed:

  • 51,4% stated that they «less satisfied» with life,

  • 38,3% - «satisfied»,

  • and only 10,2% - «very satisfied».

By comparison, the share of life satisfaction among migrants from other countries is much higher.

Reasons for dissatisfaction

Experts note that the key factors are:

  • Language barriers and complex integration,

  • Difficulties with employment by profession,

  • High housing costs,

  • emotional distance from family and homeland.

In addition, many Ukrainians did not expect that the process of legalisation, job search and education could take years.

Context.

After the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, the following people left for Germany more than 1 million Ukrainians.
Despite the German government's efforts to integrate, a DW study shows that Ukrainians are adapting slower, than expected.
