UNESCO's decision
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine elected to the UNESCO Executive Board for 2025-2029.
Our state has received the largest number of votes among all candidates, proving once again the support of the international community.
«Today, Ukraine has been elected to the UNESCO Executive Board for 2025-2029 with the largest number of votes. Together with Romania and Moldova, we are ahead of Russia: for the second time in a row, Moscow has lost the election and will not join the Council,» Zelenskyy said.
What it means
UNESCO's Executive Board is one of the key bodies of the organisation that determines main areas of activity in education, science, culture and media.
Ukraine's membership in the Council opens up the possibility of influence international decisions in the field of humanitarian policy and cultural heritage.
International support
The results of the vote were another indication of the isolation of russia in global institutions і Strengthening Ukraine's position in the UN and its agencies.
According to the diplomats, Kyiv has received wide support from countries in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa.
