Umerov arrives in Istanbul to resume the process of prisoner exchanges between Ukraine and Russia
Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov arrived in Turkey to resume the blocked process of prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia.
According to Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, The visit to Istanbul is aimed at implementing preliminary agreements reached during international consultations.
«There was an agreement, and it must be implemented. The task of the President of Ukraine is clear - Ukrainians must return home from captivity,» the NSDC representative stressed.
Context.
The process of exchanges between Kyiv and Moscow has been complicated since the beginning of the year. Turkey has repeatedly spoken out mediator in negotiations, The organisation has been helping to conduct humanitarian missions and facilitate the release of prisoners of war.
During his visit, Umerov is also expected to hold meetings with Turkish officials to agree on the details of future exchanges and guarantees of their implementation.
