UN General Assembly 2025: what was said about the war in Ukraine and international support

New York, 23 September 2025 - At the opening of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Russia's war against Ukraine remained a key topic alongside the war in the Middle East.

Ukrainian context

  • President of Ukraine made a speech calling for increased international assistance in the field of air defence and long-range weapons.

  • Ukraine called on the UN to recognise Russian aggression as a threat to global security and support the establishment of an international tribunal to bring Russia to justice.

  • Support for Ukraine was voiced in the speeches of the leaders of the United States, the EU, and a number of Asian countries. It was emphasised that Russia uses war as an instrument of blackmail in world politics.
