DIU declassifies commanders who order missile attacks
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has released a list of 13 Russian commanders involved in massive shelling of Ukrainian cities. According to intelligence, these military officers are responsible for planning and executing missile strikes against civilian infrastructure.
Names of Russian commanders
The published list includes the following Russian military personnel:
lieutenant general Sergey Kobylash;
major general Sergey Kuvaldin;
colonel Sergey Shevel;
colonel Oleg Pchela;
major general Mykola Varpakhovych;
colonel Oleg Skitsky;
colonel Oleg Timoshin;
colonel Denis Akhmadeyev;
colonel Alexei Yamakidi;
major general Andrey Malyshev;
colonel Dmitry Egorov;
lieutenant colonel Alexey Stolyarov;
colonel Denis Krivosheev.
International responsibility
Kyiv emphasises that the publication of these names is an important step for future international processes. Ukraine plans to transfer the data to the International Criminal Court and partner intelligence agencies.
The DIU representatives emphasised that the collected materials could become a basis for personal sanctions and criminal prosecutions in the world.
Why it matters
This is the first time that Ukraine has publicly named the specific commanders who ordered the strikes.
The data could speed up the prosecution of the Russian military.
The move demonstrates that crimes against civilians will not go unpunished.
