The Government of Ukraine has decided to allocate additional UAH 3.1 billion to finance defence needs. This was announced by the Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

What the funds will be used for

According to the Prime Minister, the additional funding will be used to:

• Development of defence capabilities;

• purchase of weapons;

• modernisation of military equipment;

• repair and restoration of existing weapons.

Source of funding

Svyrydenko noted that the necessary amount was raised through budgetary savings in January-December this year. The reduction in expenditures made it possible to reallocate funds without increasing the budget deficit.

Context.

Financing the defence sector remains a key priority for the state in the context of a full-scale war. The government regularly reviews budget programmes, allocating the saved resources to the needs of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
