The United States will increase military support for Ukraine on the eve of Christmas, but at the same time, it is preparing European allies for a new reality - after 2027, NATO will function without American dominance. This was reported by Kyiv Post.

Weapons supplies to Ukraine to be increased in the coming weeks

According to the newspaper, Washington plans to increase military assistance to Ukraine before the winter period, including packages of weapons and ammunition. It is expected that the intensity of supplies will increase by the end of the year to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities amid ongoing negotiations.

The sources clarify that this is the «final period of maximum pace» before a large-scale reformatting of the US approach to defence commitments in Europe.

After 2027, the US does not plan to be the main supplier of NATO forces

The US side has officially warned its allies: after 2027, the United States will no longer be the main source of conventional forces for the Alliance. It is expected:

• Reducing the number of US officials in NATO structures - Their places will be gradually transferred to Europeans.

• SACEUR will remain American, The EU will gradually take control of all other key command positions.

• Europe must prove its readiness to take over the defence of the continent - with its own funding, resources and production facilities.

The Pentagon emphasises that EU allies must demonstrate concrete actions, such as increased defence spending, ammunition production, air defence development and the expansion of military-industrial capabilities.
