Details of the draft law

The new support package includes $400 million annually in 2026 and 2027 to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities. The funding will be used to purchase weapons, train the Ukrainian military and strengthen security systems.

U.S. lawmakers emphasise that the aid should provide stable support to Ukraine in the face of Russia's ongoing aggression and the need for long-term defence planning.

Context.

The US emphasises that the new two-year funding format will avoid the delays and uncertainty that previously arose during the approval of annual budgets. Presidential Administration Donald Trump continues to work on reforming the mechanisms of defence assistance to allies.

Ukraine expects that part of the funds will be spent on air defence and precision fire systems, which remain key needs of the Armed Forces.
