The main points of the US plan were agreed in Geneva

Negotiations in Geneva allowed to agree on most of the points of the US plan

In Geneva, the delegations of Ukraine, the United States and European partners managed to to agree on most of the points of the American peace plan, reports RBC-Ukraine with reference to its own sources.

According to the publication, a significant part of the controversial provisions were adjusted, This allowed us to make progress in agreeing on the basic principles of the future document.

Agreed topics

Among the points on which the parties have already reached an agreement:

• The size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in peacetime;

• questions about safety and control at Zaporizhzhya NPP;

• format of prisoner exchange;

• mechanisms Return of convicts Ukrainian citizens.

These topics, according to sources, do not raise any significant objections between the parties.

Issues that remain unresolved

A number of key issues should be raised at the the level of the presidents of Ukraine and the USA, In particular:

• territorial issues, including how they are formulated in the draft agreement;

• consolidation of Ukraine's non-member status in NATO during the peaceful period.

According to the publication, the biggest controversy is caused by demanding the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from part of Donetsk region. The Ukrainian side insists that such a condition is unacceptable.

Context.

The Geneva talks have become a critical stage in the formation of an agreed plan between Kyiv, Washington and the EU. The day before, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced «significant progress», and Ukraine and the US issued a joint statement stressing that any agreement must fully respect Ukraine's sovereignty.

At the same time, Europe is proposing its own adjustments, in particular with regard to sanctions policy and security guarantees. Final decisions are expected after the leaders agree on their positions.
