Vyacheslav Volodin said about calls in the State Duma to use «weapons of retaliation»
Chairman State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin said that the MPs are calling for the use of so-called «retaliatory weapons» and intensification of actions to achieve the goals of the war, which the Russian authorities call a «special operation».
He said this in a public commentary, speaking about the position of some MPs.
Calls for tougher action
According to Volodin, proposals are being made in the Russian parliament for more decisive steps in the framework of military operations against Ukraine. He noted that some MPs are advocating the use of «retaliatory weapons» in response to events that the Russian side interprets as threats.
The statement did not detail specific types of weapons or practical solutions.
The rhetoric of the Russian leadership
Similar formulations have been used by representatives of the Russian political leadership in public rhetoric on numerous occasions. Analysts view such statements as an element of political and information pressure.
No official decisions on changing the format or level of use of weapons had been announced at the time of the statement.
Expert opinions
International experts usually regard such public signals as part of escalation communication. Real changes in military operations are usually confirmed not by statements, but by actual decisions and actions in practice.
