Attack on CHPP-1 in Voronezh temporarily cuts off electricity supply

In the Russian city of Voronezh an attack on the CHP-1, one of the key energy facilities in the region.

The capacity of the plant is 378.3 MW of electric power and 1389.3 Gcal/h of heat energy. It provides four city districts and more thousand enterprises, including the largest local plant «Voronezhsintezkauchuk».

Consequences of the incident

Russian media report on fire on the territory of the station, The situation led to a decision to temporarily suspend electricity supply and reduce heat supply to some areas of the city.

«Due to technological considerations, some houses could experience fluctuations in the temperature of the central heating. In the near future, the parameters will return to normal,» said local power engineers.

Also for a short period of time electricity supply was cut off in a part of the city. Local authorities say that the system has been stabilised and that supply is being restored.

Context.

CHPP-1 in Voronezh is one of the oldest in Central Russia. It supplies energy to industrial facilities, residential areas and the city's transport infrastructure.

The attack was yet another in a series of explosions and fires at Russian energy companies that have been increasingly reported in recent weeks in the border regions.
