Ukraine's accession to the EU from 1 January 2027 is envisaged by the plan to end the war

A plan to end the war between Ukraine and Russia provides for Ukraine's accession to the European Union from 1 January 2027. This was stated by President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, commenting on the details of a possible peaceful settlement.

What Vucic says

According to the Serbian president, if peace is achieved:

  • you will have to implement the plan not only to the parties to the conflict, but also to the international community;

  • A key element of the agreement is A clear date for Ukraine's accession to the EU.

Vucic argues that Without this point, the implementation of the peace plan is impossible.

Resistance within the EU

At the same time, the Serbian president noted that with such a scenario:

  • Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia disagree;

  • To implement the plan, you will have to change the current EU accession procedures.

According to him, these changes can be made «by force», contrary to the current regulations and rules of the European Union.

Context.

Earlier, the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly stated that EU membership is a strategic goal of Ukraine and should become part of the post-war security architecture. At the same time, in the EU itself, the enlargement process remains complex and requires unanimous consent of all Member States.

There has been no official confirmation of the existence of such a plan by European Commission or Kyiv has not yet been made public.
