Iran's underground «missile cities» remain beyond the reach of the US and Israeli armed forces. This was stated by military historian and analyst Tom Cooper on the air of the TV channel «Espresso». Even modern bombers and special munitions are unable to destroy Iran's storage facilities.

Iranian underground facilities remain intact

Military analyst Tom Cooper said that the underground «rocket cities» Iran is beyond the reach of the US and Israeli armed forces. According to him, Iran has built large-scale underground weapons storage facilities at such a depth that even strikes by B-2 bombers are not effective.

The analyst stressed that the Iranians have placed weapons so deep that US bunker busting bombs, in particular the GBU-31 with a BLU-109 warhead, cannot reach this depth. Even the use of GBU-57 bombs does not guarantee the destruction of some facilities.

Assessing the effectiveness of US weapons

Cooper noted that even the most powerful US weapons are not capable of destroying some of Iran's underground storage facilities. This became clear in June last year, when it failed to destroy Iran's enriched uranium stockpiles.

According to the analyst, if US bombs could reach such depths, a significant portion of enriched uranium stockpiles would have already been destroyed. However, the available means do not allow this to happen.

Context.

Iran is actively building underground military facilities to store missiles and other weapons. The United States and Israel have repeatedly stated their intentions to curb Iran's nuclear programme, but their technical capabilities are currently limited.
