China is developing new generation nuclear weapons and testing them, significantly expanding its strategic deterrence capabilities. This was reported by CNN<\/strong> with reference to Pentagon and analysts' estimates.<\/p>\n

According to sources, Beijing is actively working on missiles with separate warheads, as well as on low-yield tactical nuclear weapons that could be used in regional conflicts. Washington fears that such capabilities could be used, in particular, in scenarios around Taiwan.<\/p>\n

Growth of nuclear potential<\/h3>\n

As of the beginning of 2026, China is demonstrating the fastest pace of nuclear build-up in the world. According to Pentagon and SIPRI estimates, the country already has more than 600 operational nuclear warheads, which is about twice as many as in 2020. Analysts predict that the arsenal could grow to 1,000 warheads by 2030, and to about 1,500 warheads by 2035.<\/p>\n

Formation of the nuclear triad<\/h3>\n

In parallel, China is actively developing all components of the nuclear triad. There are reports of large-scale construction of new silos for intercontinental ballistic missiles. It is also developing submarines with JL-3 missiles capable of hitting targets on the US mainland from Chinese coastal waters. In addition, the modernisation of H-6N bombers, which can carry nuclear weapons, continues.<\/p>\n
