Iran is close to concluding an agreement with China on the purchase of CM-302 supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles. This was reported by Reuters<\/strong><\/em> citing six sources with knowledge of the talks.<\/p>\n According to them, the negotiations have been going on for at least two years, but have accelerated sharply after the 12-day war between Iran and Israel last year.<\/p>\n The exact delivery date and number of missiles are still unknown.<\/p>\n Experts estimate that these supersonic missiles have a range of about 290 km and are capable of flying at low altitude, making them difficult to intercept by shipboard air defence systems.<\/p>\n Experts warn that their appearance in Iran could significantly enhance Tehran's strike capabilities at sea and pose an additional threat to the US Navy in the region.<\/p>\n One analyst called Iran's possible acquisition of such missiles a \u00abcomplete game changer\u00bb.<\/p>\n Against the backdrop of rising tensions, the United States is already deploying significant naval forces near Iran, including the aircraft carriers USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R.
