This is stated in an official statement released by the Cuban side.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"387\" data-end=\"453\">According to the agency, the incident occurred in the morning <strong data-start=\"429\" data-end=\"452\">25 February 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"1wgosdo\" data-start=\"455\" data-end=\"486\">What the Cuban side says<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"488\" data-end=\"686\">The Cuban Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that border guards found an offending speedboat about one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino Canal (Corralillo municipality, Villa Clara province).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"688\" data-end=\"706\">According to their version:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"708\" data-end=\"885\">\n<li data-section-id=\"f29e60\" data-start=\"708\" data-end=\"747\">\n<p data-start=\"710\" data-end=\"747\">The vessel was registered in Florida;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"185q8zy\" data-start=\"748\" data-end=\"819\">\n<p data-start=\"750\" data-end=\"819\">as the Cuban patrol approached, the boat crew opened fire;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1t7izpf\" data-start=\"820\" data-end=\"885\">\n<p data-start=\"822\" data-end=\"885\">the commander of the Cuban vessel was wounded as a result of the shooting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"wn2esa\" data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"908\">Consequences of the incident<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"910\" data-end=\"952\">According to Havana, as a result of the collision:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"954\" data-end=\"1100\">\n<li data-section-id=\"vox6us\" data-start=\"954\" data-end=\"1004\">\n<p data-start=\"956\" data-end=\"1004\"><strong data-start=\"956\" data-end=\"1001\">four people on a foreign vessel were killed<\/strong>;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1j7www7\" data-start=\"1005\" data-end=\"1043\">\n<p data-start=\"1007\" data-end=\"1043\">more <strong data-start=\"1010\" data-end=\"1040\">six were injured<\/strong>;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1241vpv\" data-start=\"1044\" data-end=\"1100\">\n<p data-start=\"1046\" data-end=\"1100\">The victims were evacuated for medical care.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"q383xi\" data-start=\"1102\" data-end=\"1125\">Reaction and verification<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1127\" data-end=\"1215\">The Cuban authorities stressed that they were acting to protect their sovereignty and territorial waters.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1217\" data-end=\"1226\">At the same time:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1228\"
