The European Commission has proposed to provide \u20ac45 billion in financial assistance to Ukraine in 2026, allocating funds for defence and support for public spending. The final decision is to be made by the EU Council.<\/p>\n
The European Commission has officially proposed to provide Ukraine with \u20ac45 billion in financial support in 2026. This decision was made after the approval of the \u00abUkrainian Financing Strategy\u00bb presented by Kyiv on 24 March. The funding programme is being implemented through a special mechanism, the Ukraine Support Loan.<\/p>\n
According to the proposal, \u20ac28.3 billion will be allocated to the production of weapons and drones, which will allow Ukraine to strengthen its defence sector and ensure resilience to external threats. Another \u20ac16.7 billion will be used to directly support public spending, including social benefits, healthcare and other critical areas.<\/p>\n
The financial assistance will be disbursed by the end of December 2026. However, the final approval of the package requires the approval of the EU Council. Currently, the process is being blocked by Hungary, which expresses political reservations. At the same time, the European Commission and other European institutions are actively working on the technical preparation of the programme so that if the blockage is lifted, disbursements can be made promptly.<\/p>\n
Analysts note that such financial support could be crucial for maintaining Ukraine's economic stability and strengthening its defence capabilities in 2026.
