The new rules could lead to serious queues at the border as early as this Friday.<\/p>\n<h2>What is the EES system and why is it needed<\/h2>\n<p>The EES (Entry\/Exit System) is a new electronic register launched by the European Union to control border crossings by non-EU citizens. Instead of the usual passport stamps, the first time you enter Europe, you will need to have your passport scanned, have your face photographed and have your fingerprints taken. All this data will be stored for up to three years.<\/p>\n<h2>Who is affected by the new rules and what are the consequences<\/h2>\n<p>The new rules will apply to all non-EU citizens who enjoy visa-free travel, including Ukrainians. Refusal to provide biometric data automatically means a ban on entry to the EU. Experts warn that the introduction of the new system may result in long queues at the borders as early as Friday.
