Amid geopolitical tensions and a sharp rise in input costs, farmers are recording record production costs. This will inevitably affect prices in stores in the coming months.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1oacpkq\" data-start=\"490\" data-end=\"528\">Why prices are rising rapidly right now<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"530\" data-end=\"747\">Recent weeks have seen a sharp rise in the price of key inputs for farmers. According to farmers, the price of mineral fertilisers has increased from <strong data-start=\"661\" data-end=\"694\">UAH 27,000 to 41,000 per tonne<\/strong>, which means approximately <strong data-start=\"717\" data-end=\"725\">+50%<\/strong> in a short period of time.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"883\">The situation with fuel is no less critical: diesel has almost doubled in price, from <strong data-start=\"824\" data-end=\"857\">UAH 50,000 to 90,000 per tonne<\/strong> in just a month and a half.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"885\" data-end=\"893\">Reasons:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"895\" data-end=\"1088\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1nh044u\" data-start=\"895\" data-end=\"962\">aggravation of the situation in the Middle East (in particular around Iran)<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"3g2k2k\" data-start=\"963\" data-end=\"998\">fluctuations in global oil prices<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"fhowuw\" data-start=\"999\" data-end=\"1044\">logistical constraints and supply risks<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"uqx49x\" data-start=\"1045\" data-end=\"1088\">Devaluation pressure and internal costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1090\" data-end=\"1196\">In fact, farmers found themselves in a situation where <strong data-start=\"1135\" data-end=\"1195\">The cost of growing has risen sharply even before the harvest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1198\" data-end=\"1201\" \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"xa8x34\" data-start=\"1203\" data-end=\"1233\">How this will affect prices in autumn<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1235\" data-end=\"1348\">The economics of agricultural production are simple: rising costs are inevitably passed on to the end consumer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1350\" data-end=\"1402\">According to market participants, we should expect it in the autumn:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1404\" data-end=\"1546\">\n<li data-section-id=\"18q0dj0\" data-start=\"1404\" data-end=\"1441\">rise in price of vegetables by <strong data-start=\"1429\" data-end=\"1439\">30-60%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"l0yi23\" data-start=\"1442\" data-end=\"1489\">increase in fruit prices to <strong data-start=\"1471\" data-end=\"1487\">50% and more<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"14x5d4y\" data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1546\">rise in price of greenhouse products due to energy costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1548\" data-end=\"1589\">This will hit the following categories the hardest:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1591\" data-end=\"1675\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1iaxfqt\" data-start=\"1591\" data-end=\"1603\">potato<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"oq4lw0\" data-start=\"1604\" data-end=\"1614\">onion<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1q6fpxu\" data-start=\"1615\" data-end=\"1625\">carrot<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"ddxvpl\" data-start=\"1626\" data-end=\"1646\">tomatoes and cucumbers<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"m2lfru\" data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1675\">apples and seasonal fruit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1677\" data-end=\"1794\">The situation will be particularly challenging for products that require intensive fertilisation or high fuel costs.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1796\" data-end=\"1799\" \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"cpmkny\" data-start=\"1801\" data-end=\"1853\">Why this is a systemic problem, not a temporary blip<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1855\" data-end=\"1967\">Analysts emphasise that the current situation is not a short-term fluctuation, but <strong data-start=\"1932\" data-end=\"1966\">the cumulative effect of several crises<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1969\" data-end=\"2018\">First, the war continues to affect the agricultural sector:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2020\" data-end=\"2117\">\n<li data-section-id=\"9830ij\" data-start=\"2020\" data-end=\"2064\">part of the land is inaccessible or mined<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1w1pae5\" data-start=\"2065\" data-end=\"2094\">destroyed infrastructure<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"h8u5bl\" data-start=\"2095\" data-end=\"2117\">limited logistics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2119\" data-end=\"2172\">Second, Ukraine is heavily dependent on imports:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2174\" data-end=\"2222\">\n<li data-section-id=\"x51bax\" data-start=\"2174\" data-end=\"2184\">fertilisers<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1ctub32\" data-start=\"2185\" data-end=\"2197\">fuel<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1pf359k\" data-start=\"2198\" data-end=\"2222\">equipment and spare parts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2224\" data-end=\"2326\">Any global shocks - like the current one <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/tramp-zayavyv-about-zavershennia-viyny\/\">Tensions in the Middle East<\/a> - instantly hit the cost of production.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2328\" data-end=\"2446\">Thirdly, farmers often work with minimal margins. In such circumstances, they are simply forced to raise prices to survive.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2448\" data-end=\"2451\" \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"116hd8u\" data-start=\"2453\" data-end=\"2488\">Experts' predictions: what will happen next<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2490\" data-end=\"2541\">Experts agree that the price peak is still ahead.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2543\" data-end=\"2558\">It is expected that:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2560\" data-end=\"2752\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1tdqcji\" data-start=\"2560\" data-end=\"2621\">in September-October will start <strong data-start=\"2589\" data-end=\"2619\">the main wave of price increases<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"155h6hc\" data-start=\"2622\" data-end=\"2708\">In winter, prices may increase by another <strong data-start=\"2666\" data-end=\"2676\">10-20%<\/strong> through storage and logistics<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"2ks7ok\" data-start=\"2709\" data-end=\"2752\">certain items may become scarce<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2754\" data-end=\"2959\">Analysts also point to another risk <strong data-start=\"2805\" data-end=\"2827\">reduction of crops<\/strong>. Some farmers are already cutting back on production due to high costs. The sharp rise in the cost of fertilisers and fuel is already laying the groundwork for higher food prices in the autumn.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3890\" data-end=\"4069\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Vegetables and fruits that were previously affordable may become much more expensive and sometimes scarce.
