On 10 April, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that the Kharkiv city government and its subordinate utilities had accumulated over UAH 30 billion in debt for electricity and gas.<\/p>\n
According to Denys Shmyhal<\/b>, Kharkiv city authorities and utilities owe almost UAH 8 billion for electricity and UAH 23 billion for gas. This is the largest amount of debt among Ukrainian cities today.<\/p>\n
The Minister stressed that such huge amounts of debt put additional pressure on state-owned enterprises that supply energy.<\/p>\n
Shmyhal noted that the population of Kharkiv and Kharkiv region pays 98% for energy. This is a fairly high percentage, which demonstrates the responsibility of the region's residents.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the debt was generated by the municipal authorities and utility companies, not by the population.<\/p>\n
