Mayor of Athens Haris Dukakis<\/strong> announced the introduction of new rules for short-term rentals, including through platforms such as Airbnb.<\/p>\n According to the mayor, the city cannot function as a \u00abbig hotel\u00bb and must protect the interests of local residents. The authorities are planning to limit the number of apartments available for tourists in the central areas of Athens.<\/p>\n The growth of tourism has led to a shortage of affordable housing for Athenians. Residents complain of rising prices and displacement from historic neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n Local authorities emphasise the need to maintain a balance between tourism development and comfort for residents. Overtourism also affects infrastructure and quality of life.<\/p>\n Representatives of the tourism sector expressed concern about the possible economic consequences of the restrictions.
