Ukrzaliznytsia received the first six new passenger railcars manufactured in Ukraine in 2026. This is the start of a large-scale rolling stock upgrade that will see the production of 100 modern cars by 2028.<\/p>\n

The first new railcars for Ukrzaliznytsia are already in Kyiv<\/h2>\n

Today, Ukrzaliznytsia announced the receipt of the first six new passenger railcars manufactured at Kryukiv Carriage Works in 2026. These are the first cars out of 100 ordered in 2025 under a contract worth about UAH 6.5 billion. The project is financed from the state budget.<\/p>\n

The new railcars have already arrived in Kyiv and are being prepared for their maiden voyage. They will be used as part of a new flagship train that Ukrzaliznytsia will unveil on 28 April, according to a statement on the company's official website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Large-scale renewal of rolling stock<\/h2>\n

Under the terms of the contract, Kryukiv Carriage Works is to deliver 100 new passenger cars by May 2028. By the end of 2026, it is planned to complete the production of 60 cars. The renewal of the fleet includes the supply of 88 modern compartment cars, 7 inclusive cars for wheelchair users and 5 new generation cars with a 20-year service life extension.<\/p>\n

Each carriage is equipped with air conditioning, batteries, and provides facilities for travelling with children. Particular attention is paid to inclusiveness and increased comfort for passengers of different categories.<\/p>\n

Participation of Ukrainian producers and regional development<\/h2>\n

More than 150 Ukrainian companies are involved in the production of new railcars. Among them are companies from the frontline and relocated regions, which helps to preserve jobs, paying taxes<\/a> and the development of domestic technologies.<\/p>\n

The involvement of a wide range of manufacturers ensures not only the quality of the final product but also the support of the economy in difficult conditions. The production of railcars has become an impetus for boosting the country's industrial potential.<\/p>\n

Why it matters<\/h2>\n

The large-scale renewal of Ukrzaliznytsia's passenger car fleet is a key step towards improving the quality of rail transport in Ukraine. The new cars will make travelling more comfortable and safe for passengers, including people with disabilities and families with children.<\/p>\n
