North Korea has increased its nuclear capabilities to a level that allows it to potentially overcome US missile defences. According to Bloomberg, Kim Jong-un may declare war on the United States, as the DPRK already has a powerful nuclear arsenal and is actively modernising it.<\/p>\n

DPRK Nuclear Arsenal: Current Status and Capabilities<\/h2>\n

North Korea currently possesses about 50 nuclear warheads and is capable of producing material for about 20 more every year. According to Bloomberg<\/a>, This arsenal already poses a real threat to the US missile defence system. In recent years, Pyongyang has been actively modernising its capabilities, in particular developing solid-fuel missiles that are harder to detect and faster to launch.<\/p>\n

The US Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system is deployed in Alaska and California. It consists of 44 interceptor missiles, with the possibility of expanding by another 20. However, at least two interceptors are usually required to destroy one target, which significantly reduces the system's effectiveness in a massive attack.<\/p>\n

The potential for a US missile defence breakthrough<\/h2>\n

The GMD system is designed to intercept intercontinental ballistic missiles, but its current capacity is limited. Under such conditions, the simultaneous launch of about two dozen missiles could exhaust the existing stock of US interceptors. This makes the US defence vulnerable to a massive attack from the DPRK.<\/p>\n

The greatest threat is posed by Hwasong missiles, which, together with the existing warheads, can overload the interceptor system. In the event of a real conflict, the likelihood of North Korea's nuclear missiles breaking through the US missile defence system increases significantly.<\/p>\n

Modernisation of Pyongyang's arsenal<\/h2>\n

Pyongyang<\/a> not only increases the number of warheads, but also actively develops new types of weapons. In particular, solid-fuel missiles, which are harder to detect and faster to launch, increase the chances of a successful attack. This means that the United States has limited time to respond if such missiles are launched.<\/p>\n

Thanks to these technologies, the DPRK is able not only to increase the likelihood of a missile defence breach, but also to complicate the process of detecting and neutralising a potential attack. Modernisation of missile capabilities strengthens Pyongyang's position in the international arena.<\/p>\n
