Since midnight on 8 May, Russia has declared a ceasefire on the contact line, calling on Ukraine to observe the ceasefire. The Ukrainian side emphasises that in response to peace initiatives, shelling and threats from the Russian Federation continue.<\/p>\n

Russia declares a truce at the front<\/h2>\n

From 00:00 on 8 May to 00:00 on 10 May, Russia announced truce<\/a>, as reported by the Ministry of Defence of the occupying country. According to the statement, Russian troops must comply with the ceasefire both on the ground and in the airspace on the contact line.<\/p>\n

The Russian Ministry of Defence called on Ukraine to also comply with the terms of the ceasefire and warned of an \u201cadequate response\u201d in case of violations.<\/p>\n

Ukraine's reaction to Russia's statement<\/h2>\n

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/strong> stressed that Ukraine was ready to ensure complete silence at the front. However, according to him, in response to Ukraine's peace proposal, Russia carried out new blows<\/a> and made further threats.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy also warned representatives of states with close ties to Russia not to stay in Moscow these days because of the potential danger. He stressed that the Russians are using the ceasefire to hold a parade, and that there are already claims of new attacks after 9 May.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the truce and possible risks<\/h2>\n

In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defence said it wanted to ensure security during the parade. However, the Ukrainian authorities believe that the real purpose of the announced truce is a demonstration for domestic and foreign audiences.<\/p>\n
