Prime Minister Svyrydenko said that the debts of heating companies for gas consumption amount to UAH 150 billion. Over the past four years, local heating companies have more than doubled their debt, from UAH 60 billion to the current level.<\/p>\n

The growing debt of district heating companies puts an additional burden on the budget and increases the risks to the stability of the heating season. At the same time, it jeopardises further reforms in the sector and the modernisation of heating systems.<\/p>\n

Causes of debt accumulation<\/h2>\n

The main drivers of the debt growth are rising energy prices, insufficient funding from local budgets, and low payment discipline among end users. According to Sviridenko<\/strong><\/a>, The situation is further complicated by ageing infrastructure and high heat losses during transport.<\/p>\n

The lack of effective debt collection mechanisms and insufficient government support only exacerbate the problem. This calls for a comprehensive approach to addressing the financial sustainability of district heating companies.<\/p>\n
