On the night of 16 May, a large-scale fire broke out at the Russian chemical plant Nevinnomyssky Azot after a Ukrainian drone attack. The company is one of the key producers of nitrate and ammonia for the Russian military industry.<\/p>\n

\u00abNevinnomyssky Azot under attack from drones<\/h2>\n

On the night of 16 May, the drones reached the territory of the Nevinnomyssky Azot plant in the Stavropol Territory. This is one of Russia's largest chemical complexes, producing up to 1.4 million tonnes of nitrate and over a million tonnes of ammonia annually, which are used to make explosives and ammunition.<\/p>\n

The fire that followed the attack engulfed a large part of the production facilities. According to eyewitnesses, the air defence system did not work - \u00abAir defence does not work at all. The extent of the damage and the value of the plant<\/h2>\n

\u00abNevinnomyssky Azot plays a key role in supplying the Russian military-industrial complex with components for the production of ammunition. The plant specialises in ammonia and nitrate, which are the main ingredients for explosives. Damage to such an enterprise could significantly affect the production of Russian shells and other military products.<\/p>\n

In addition, the attack was another signal to the Russian military and industrialists about the vulnerability of critical infrastructure. The absence of air defence systems at such a facility calls into question Russia's ability to protect its own production facilities even at a considerable distance from the front line.<\/p>\n

Fire in Tatarstan: not related to UAV attack<\/h2>\n

In parallel with the events in Stavropol Krai, a large-scale warehouse fire was reported in Naberezhnye Chelny (Tatarstan). However, according to available information, this fire was not caused by a drone attack. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but the extent of the damage is also significant. Both incidents demonstrate serious safety issues at Russian industrial facilities.<\/p>\n

The attack on Nevinnomyssky Azot is not only a tactical success for Ukraine, but also a strategic one a blow to the Russian military-industrial complex<\/a>. Damage to the enterprise that produces components for explosives and ammunition could significantly complicate the supply of the Russian army.
