At the same time, Sandu stressed that the issue of Moldova's accession to the EU will be decided only by the European Union.<\/p>\n<h2>Putin's decree and its consequences<\/h2>\n<p>President of Moldova <strong>Maya Sandu<\/strong> drew attention to the danger posed to the region by the new Russian presidential decree on simplified granting of Russian citizenship to residents of the self-proclaimed Transnistria. Sandu believes that this step could lead to the mobilisation of residents of the Transnistrian region to participate in the war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n<h2>Chisinau's reaction<\/h2>\n<p>Sandu stressed that Chisinau is closely monitoring the Kremlin's actions and considers such decrees as an additional threat to Moldova's security. According to her, the mobilisation of residents <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/viyna\/ukraina-ukriplennia-kordon-prydnistrovia-oborona\/\">Transnistria<\/a> under the Russian flag could create new challenges not only for Moldova itself, but also for regional stability in general. In the context of Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine, such initiatives by the Kremlin are also causing concern among the country's Western partners.<\/p>\n<h2>Moldova's European choice<\/h2>\n<p>Asked about Russia's influence on Moldova's European integration, Sandu said that the decision on the country's accession to the EU depends solely on the European Union. She emphasised:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00abOnly the EU can decide whether Moldova will become part of the EU or not. Russia has nothing to do with it.\u00bb.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This position demonstrates Chisinau's desire to maintain independence in foreign policy and not allow third countries to influence the strategic course of the state.<\/p>\n<h2>Why it matters<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/main-news\/ukraina-moldova-izolyuvaly-prydnistrovya\/\">The situation around Transnistria<\/a> remains one of the key security challenges for Moldova and the entire region. The simplified granting of Russian citizenship could become a tool to draw residents of the unrecognised region into the war against Ukraine, potentially escalating the conflict. Moldova's position on European integration demonstrates the country's desire to overcome external pressure and ensure its
