The amount of the award relates to unpaid transit of Russian gas through Ukraine. Earlier, in 2025, the tribunal had already ordered the Russian company to pay these funds, but Gazprom did not comply with the decision voluntarily.<\/p>\n<h2>Court decision in Kazakhstan<\/h2>\n<p>The court of the International Financial Centre \u00abAstana\u00bb has issued a decision allowing to enforce the recovery of \u00ab<a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/economics\/naftohaz-vyhrav-sud-u-hazpromu\/\">Gazprom<\/a>\u00bb about $1.4 billion in favour of Naftogaz. This was the result of the recognition of an international arbitration award made in 2025 regarding unpaid gas transit through Ukraine.<\/p>\n<h2>Reasons for the penalty<\/h2>\n<p>The arbitral award concerns payments for the transit of Russian gas that Gazprom failed to make in full. The company did not fulfil its obligations voluntarily, which was the basis for applying to the Kazakh court to enforce the award. Recognition of the arbitral award in Kazakhstan opens up the possibility of recovering funds from the assets of the Russian company in that country.<\/p>\n<h2>Naftogaz's position\u00ab<\/h2>\n<p>\u0423 \u00ab<a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/suspilstvo\/udar-po-naftogazu-zaporizhzhia-bez-gazu\/\">Naftogaz<\/a>\u00bbreported that it is continuing its international campaign to find and recover Gazprom's assets in various jurisdictions. According to the company's representatives, such actions are part of a broader strategy to obtain compensation for the Russian side's unfulfilled obligations.<\/p>\n<h2>Further actions of the parties<\/h2>\n<p>Following the court ruling in Kazakhstan, Naftogaz has the right to initiate procedures to search for and seize Gazprom's assets in the country.
