The Director of National Intelligence of the United States, Tulsi Gabbard, has resigned from her post effective 30 June 2026. She is leaving to support her husband, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.<\/p>\n

Tulsi Gabbard<\/strong> officially informed the president Donald Trump<\/strong> has announced her resignation as Director of National Intelligence, effective 30 June 2026. She made public a copy of the letter on the X platform<\/a>, noting that the reason for her resignation was due to her husband's diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer Abraham<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the letter Hubbard<\/a> expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and stressed that during her tenure she has ensured unprecedented transparency and restored confidence in the intelligence community. She also highlighted the significant progress made in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.<\/p>\n

Resignation and further steps<\/h2>\n

President Donald Trump commented on the resignation, saying that Gabbard had done an excellent job. Gabbard's first deputy will serve as interim Director of National Intelligence, Aaron Lucas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the newspaper The Wall Street Journal<\/strong> reported on Gabbard's plans to resign. The newspaper emphasised that she had not been involved in key discussions on the US and Israeli wars against Iran<\/a>, and sometimes expressed opinions that contradicted the official position of the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

Tulsi Gabbard's career<\/h2>\n

Gabbard has military experience in Iraq and is a retired lieutenant colonel. During her tenure as Director of National Intelligence, she reduced the agency's staff and initiated the publication of more than half a million pages of classified government documents. Among the materials released were investigations into Donald Trump's possible ties to Russia and the assassinations of John and Robert F. Kennedy.<\/p>\n

The politician was elected to the US Congress four times from the Democratic Party, but left the party in 2022 and officially joined the Republican Party in 2024.
