French President Emmanuel Macron has spoken to Alexander Lukashenko on the phone for the first time since the start of Russia's war against Ukraine. Macron warned the Belarusian leader against further involvement in the conflict and urged him to improve relations with Europe.<\/p>\n

President of France Emmanuel Macron<\/strong> held the first recorded direct contact with the self-proclaimed president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko<\/strong> since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.<\/p>\n

In the conversation, Macron emphasised the risks for Belarus in case of further involvement in the Russia's war against Ukraine<\/a>. He drew attention to the need to improve Belarus's relations with Europe against the backdrop of growing tensions in the region<\/a> and increased military activity near NATO's eastern border.<\/p>\n
