Thanks to large-scale strikes on the Novorossiya highway, its use has fallen by more than half in a month. Ukrainian drones are inflicting heavy losses on Russian forces and plan to completely cut off access to the peninsula in the near future.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\">\n<div class=\"summary-title\">Briefly about the main points<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Ukrainian drones have reduced traffic on the Novorossiya motorway by more than 66%.<\/li>\n<li>Commander Brovdi predicts that full control of the route to Crimea will be established within a month.<\/li>\n<li>In the first five months of 2026, drones destroyed 174 Russian air defence systems.<\/li>\n<li>The Ukrainian Armed Forces' drones account for 2.51% of the army and have inflicted a third of the Russian Federation's losses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Ukrainian drones are blocking key Russian routes to Crimea<\/h2>\n<p>Commander of the Ukrainian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Forces <strong>Robert Brovdi<\/strong> stated that drones <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/viyna\/chonharskyi-mist-vyvedeno-z-ladu\/\">traffic on the Novorossiya motorway has been reduced<\/a>, which is a vital military supply route for Russia, by more than two-thirds over the past month. He predicts that full control of this route will be established within the next month, which will significantly hamper supplies to occupied Crimea.<\/p>\n<p>According to Brovdi, striking vehicles on open roads is \u201cas easy as shooting partridges in an open field\u201d. This confirms the effectiveness of drones in disrupting enemy logistics, which has already led to the introduction of fuel rationing in Crimea.<\/p>\n<h2>The growth and effectiveness of Ukrainian drones<\/h2>\n<p>Over the past year, the number of medium-range combat sorties flown by Ukrainian drones has increased 28-fold, whilst strikes on deep-rear targets within Russian territory have almost quadrupled, Brovdi stated. In the first five months of 2026 alone, 174 Russian air defence systems worth around $5.4 billion were destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian drones account for just 2.51% of the army\u2019s total forces, but according to their data, they are responsible for around a third of Russian forces\u2019 losses over the past year. There are plans to increase the proportion of drone units to 5%, which should enhance the effectiveness of strikes.<\/p>\n<h2>The strategic objective of isolating Crimea<\/h2>\n<p>Brovdi stressed that the aim of the campaign is to force Russia to withdraw by creating conditions under which it will become impossible for military personnel and defence industry workers to remain in the occupied territories, particularly in Crimea. He stressed that the strikes are not aimed at civilian targets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Kofman<\/strong>, a military analyst, noted that technological advances in unmanned aerial vehicles make the isolation of Crimea a realistic prospect, but that driving out Russian forces would require coordination with a ground operation.<\/p>\n<h2>Commander Brovdi \u2013 a key figure in the air war<\/h2>\n<p>Robert Brovdi, a former businessman from western Ukraine, took command of the drone forces last year and transformed them into one of the most powerful units. His unit, the \u201cBirds of Magyar\u201d, systematically collects and analyses data to improve the accuracy of strikes and minimise the human factor. Brovdi is considered one of Russia\u2019s most valuable targets and was recently convicted in absentia of terrorism.<\/p>\n<h2>The impact of drone strikes on the course of the war<\/h2>\n<p>The destruction of Russian military personnel, logistics centres, oil infrastructure and weapons production deep within Russian territory is affecting Moscow\u2019s ability to continue the war.
