Monitoring channels and official sources, in particular <strong>Air Force of Ukraine<\/strong>, warned of an extremely high likelihood that the Russian Federation would deploy the \u00abOreshnik\u00bb medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) between 11 and 14 June 2026.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">According to available information, the Kremlin had informed the United States and its partners in advance of the planned launch from the test site \u00ab<a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/world\/kapustin-yar-poshkodzhennia-rakety\/\">Kapustin Yar<\/a>\u00bb in the Astrakhan region. Of particular concern is the fact that this strike could differ radically from the previous three test launches.<\/p>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"5\">Why the June attack by \u00abOreshnik\u00bb could be the most dangerous<\/h2>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">The main danger of a potential attack lies in the type of warhead. During previous strikes (notably on Dnipro in November 2024, on the Lviv region in January 2026 and on <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/main-news\/rf-zapustyla-oreshnik-po-kyivshchyni-dlia-zaliakuvannia\/\">Bila Tserkva<\/a> (24 May 2026) Russia used inert warheads without explosives, which caused damage solely through their immense kinetic energy.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">This time, things might be different. Previously, the dictator <strong>Vladimir Putin<\/strong> open <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/world\/zaiavy-putina-pro-perehovory-orishnyk\/\">stated<\/a>, ...that during the upcoming tests, the \u00abOreshnik\u00bb may be deployed for the first time with a full-scale warhead. This means that the missile\u2019s destructive power will increase significantly.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Technical information:<\/b> The complex \u00ab<a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/analitika\/shcho-take-raketa-oreshnik-analiz\/\">Oreshnik<\/a>\u00bb was developed on the basis of experimental intercontinental technologies (in particular, the RS-26 \u00abRubizh\u00bb missile system). This weapon is a classic example of the BRSD class, which was previously covered by the now-defunct INF Treaty. It was designed as a platform capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"9\">Technical specifications and engagement architecture of the \u00abOreshnik\u00bb unmanned aerial vehicle\u00bb<\/h2>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">According to military experts and analytical reports <a class=\"ng-star-inserted\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sipri.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hveid=\"0\" data-ved=\"0CAAQ_4QMahcKEwjjlpuoh4KVAxUAAAAAHQAAAAAQJw\">Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI)<\/a>, the \u00abOreshnik\u00bb has a number of specific characteristics that make it an extremely dangerous thermobaric or high-explosive weapon:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"11\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Hypersonic speed:<\/b> In its terminal phase, the missile is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 12,000 km\/h (around Mach 10). This reduces the flight time from the launch site in the Astrakhan region to cities in Ukraine to a matter of minutes, leaving civilians little time to seek shelter.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Separate Combat Unit (RGCH IN):<\/b> The missile contains six individually guided warheads. Each of these warheads, in turn, carries submunitions (up to 36 in total). In the final stage of flight, they separate and attack several targets along different trajectories, creating a \u00abrain of fire\u00bb effect.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Load variability:<\/b> In addition to its potential nuclear warhead, the standard version of the \u00abOreshnik\u00bb is equipped with a powerful high-explosive or high-explosive fragmentation warhead of considerable weight, capable of destroying underground command posts and large industrial facilities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"12\">The challenge of interception: is Ukraine\u2019s air defence ready?<\/h2>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\">The Air Force\u2019s warning has sparked a lively debate among Western allies regarding the ability to protect Ukrainian airspace from weapons of this class.
