Following a series of attacks on critical infrastructure, prolonged power cuts are being reported across much of the peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine <strong>Roberta \u201cMadyar\u201d Brovdi<\/strong> reported that on the night of 3 July alone, Ukrainian units struck 10 energy infrastructure targets, including high-voltage substations in Saki, Staryi Krym, Bilohirsk, Tarkhankut, Mykolaivka, the West Crimean substation and the \u00abKlyuchi\u00bb gas compressor station.<\/p>\n<h2>NASA has captured images of Crimea in darkness<\/h2>\n<p>Satellite images of night-time lighting published by NASA confirm a significant reduction in electricity supply across most of the occupied peninsula. The highest concentration of lighting remains only in large urban areas, whilst vast swathes of the territory have effectively been left without night-time lighting.<\/p>\n<h2>The fuel crisis is exacerbating the consequences<\/h2>\n<p>Alongside the power cuts on the peninsula, there is an ongoing acute <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/economics\/defitsit-palnogo-v-krymu\/\">fuel shortage<\/a>. Due to the blows dealt to Russian logistics, the occupying authorities have been forced to restrict petrol sales to the civilian population, and many petrol stations have run out of fuel. This significantly complicates the use of backup diesel generators, which were intended to keep critical infrastructure running during power cuts.<\/p>\n<h2>The energy system has suffered serious losses<\/h2>\n<p>According to monitoring sources, over the past few days, fires and damage have been reported at a number of key substations, as well as at individual energy infrastructure facilities that supply power to military and civilian areas in occupied Crimea.<\/p>\n<h2>Why it matters<\/h2>\n<p>A series of strikes on energy and logistics infrastructure forms part of Ukraine\u2019s campaign to isolate occupied Crimea. Disruptions to the electricity grid, fuel shortages and logistical difficulties are reducing the Russian forces\u2019 ability to sustain their forces on the peninsula and ensure its
