According to US Central Command, the strikes targeted missile and drone sites, naval assets and coastal defence systems. At the same time, the US has reimposed a naval blockade on Iran.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\">\n<p><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CENTCOM announced a seven-hour wave of US strikes.<\/li>\n<li>The targets identified include missiles, drones, naval assets and coastal defences.<\/li>\n<li>The strikes were carried out by fighter jets, drones and warships.<\/li>\n<li>The blockade applies to vessels sailing to or from Iranian ports.<\/li>\n<li>Iran has claimed responsibility for attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>What the US Central Command said<\/h2>\n<p>According to the report <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/world\/ssha-udar-iran-obmezhennya-ormuz-protoka\/\">CENTCOM<\/a>, the latest round of strikes ended at 22:00 on 14 July US Eastern Time, or at 05:00 on 15 July Kyiv time. The US side reported that it had struck dozens of targets near the Strait of Hormuz and along the Iranian coast.<\/p>\n<p>The command reported that fighter jets, drones, ships and precision-guided munitions were used in the operation. CENTCOM claims that the attack has further reduced Iran\u2019s ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian crews in the strait.<\/p>\n<h2>The blockade is targeting Iranian ports<\/h2>\n<p>The strikes took place against the backdrop of the US\u2019s recovery <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/world\/blokada-iran-ormuzka-protoka-20-zbir-2026\/\">naval blockade<\/a> Iran. According to the Associated Press and a statement from CENTCOM, the restrictions apply to vessels travelling to or from Iranian ports, including routes to ports and oil terminals.<\/p>\n<p>The US side states that neutral transit to non-Iranian destinations should not be blocked, and that humanitarian shipments will be allowed through following inspection. At the same time, no public details have been provided regarding the duration of the blockade, its legal basis or the procedure to be followed in respect of vessels that refuse to comply with the requirements.<\/p>\n<h2>Attacks on ships and the regional response<\/h2>\n<p>Commander of CENTCOM, Admiral <strong>Brad Cooper<\/strong> stated that Iran had attacked seven merchant ships over the past seven days. According to him, nearly ten civilian crew members were killed, went missing or were injured. These claims come from the US military command.<\/p>\n<p>According to the AP, missile alerts were issued in Bahrain and Kuwait on the morning of 15 July, whilst Jordan reported that it had intercepted three Iranian missiles. Iran stated that it had attacked all three countries. At that time, there was no comprehensive independent data on the impact of these attacks on US facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s Ambassador to the UN <strong>Amir Said Irawani<\/strong>, described the US as an aggressor in a letter to the UN leadership.<\/p>\n<h2>Risks associated with passing through the strait<\/h2>\n<p>The Strait of Hormuz is one of the key routes for global energy trade: before the war, around a fifth of the world\u2019s oil and gas trade passed through it. Reuters estimated the pre-war flow at more than 15 million barrels of fuel per day.<\/p>\n<p>The reinstatement of the blockade extends US pressure from a purely offensive campaign to Iran\u2019s port and export logistics. At the same time, the distinction drawn by the US between the blockade of Iran and transit through third countries can only work provided that safe routes are guaranteed and there is no further escalation.<\/p>\n<p>President of the United States <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> stated that the strikes would continue over the coming days and that, should Iran fail to return to the negotiating table next week, bridges and power stations could become potential targets.
