On the night of 18 July, drones attacked the Moscow Region in Russia. A fire broke out at the oil depot in Noginsk. The fire was confirmed by Andrei Vorobyov, Governor of the Moscow Region, who stated that it was caused by a drone crash.<\/p>\n

According to initial reports, a fuel infrastructure facility approximately 50 kilometres from Moscow was hit. On social media and monitoring channels, the facility is being linked to the \u00abMostransnefteprodukt\u00bb system.<\/p>\n

What is known about the attack on Noginsk<\/h2>\n

Governor of the Moscow Region Andriy Vorobyov<\/strong> stated that the region had come under attack from drones. According to him, a fire broke out at the oil depot in Noginsk after a drone crashed. Emergency services were at the scene.<\/p>\n

Noginsk is situated in the Moscow Region, to the east of the Russian capital. It is approximately 34 kilometres from the Moscow Ring Road, so the strike on the fuel facility in this area marked yet another attack on infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of Moscow.<\/p>\n

The extent of the damage to the oil depot and the consequences of the fire are still being assessed. At the time the first reports emerged, the Ukrainian side had not officially commented on its involvement in the attack.<\/p>\n

Attacks on Russia\u2019s fuel infrastructure have intensified<\/h2>\n

The attack on Noginsk took place against the backdrop of a series of blows<\/a> on Russia\u2019s oil and fuel logistics infrastructure. On 9 July, fires were reported following drone attacks on oil depots in Tver and Mikhailovsk in the Stavropol Krai. A few days later, the facility in the Stavropol Krai was attacked again.<\/p>\n

The campaign of long-range strikes is also affecting Russian oil refineries and maritime logistics. According to the Associated Press, Ukraine has recently stepped up its attacks on Russian oil infrastructure and vessels involved in the transport of fuel.<\/p>\n

The strike near Moscow broadens the scope of the pressure<\/h2>\n

If the reports of damage to the \u00abMostransnefteprodukt\u00bb facility are officially confirmed, the attack will take on added significance given the location of the fuel infrastructure near Russia\u2019s largest urban and economic centre.<\/p>\n

Regular attacks on oil depots<\/a>, oil refineries and transport infrastructure mean that Russia must simultaneously defend a large number of dispersed facilities.
