foreigner<\/a>, who was then in his fourth year at one of the local universities, met a 13-year-old girl on social media.<\/p>\nAfter several months of correspondence, he invited the schoolgirl to a rented flat in Ivano-Frankivsk, ostensibly to meet her in person. The investigation alleges that, at the flat, the man plied the minor with alcohol and committed acts of a sexual nature against her.<\/p>\n
After the incident, the girl told her parents everything. They contacted the police.<\/p>\n
The defendant left the country after posting bail<\/h2>\n
The foreign national was informed of the charges against him on 8 March 2023. On the same day, the court ordered him to be remanded in custody, subject to the payment of bail in excess of 805,000 hryvnias.<\/p>\n
After the bail was paid, the man was released from custody. According to the public prosecutor\u2019s office, he had breached a court order prohibiting him from leaving Ivano-Frankivsk, had travelled abroad and had been placed on a wanted list.<\/p>\n
For over three years, the suspect had been on the run from the Ukrainian police. In September 2025, he was arrested in Serbia.<\/p>\n
The foreign national was extradited to Ukraine<\/h2>\n
In early June 2026, the defendant was extradited from Serbia to Ukraine. Due to a previous breach of the conditions of his pre-trial release, the court remanded him in custody once again, this time without setting bail.<\/p>\n
Two court hearings have already taken place in the case. The hearing on the merits is due to begin on 26 August 2026 at the Ivano-Frankivsk City Court.<\/p>\n
The man is being held in a remand centre. He is charged with the rape of a minor under Part 4 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

If the court finds him guilty, the man faces up to 15 years\u2019 imprisonment. The final decision on his guilt and the sentence to be imposed is to be made by the court after examining the evidence and the arguments of the parties.<\/p>\n
