Firefighters warn that such conditions not only make it difficult to extinguish active fires, but also pose a risk of the flames reigniting in areas where they have already been brought under control.<\/p>\n<p>In France, the temperature in <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/world\/pozhezhi-frantsiya-ispaniya-evakuatsiya\/\">Bordeaux<\/a> On 29 July, temperatures reached 38\u00b0C. Firefighters managed to prevent a large forest fire in the pine forests from spreading to the city\u2019s suburbs. The Gironde Prefecture reported that 126 firefighters had been injured since the start of the blaze; the area burnt remained at 42,000 hectares this morning.<\/p>\n<p>In Spain, the country\u2019s largest ever recorded forest fire, west of Madrid, has been technically brought under control, said Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlasca. Meanwhile, the fire near Valencia remained out of control. For the first time in Spain\u2019s history, the fires were assigned operational level three, under which the central government took charge of the response.<\/p>\n<h2>Evacuations and European aid<\/h2>\n<p>Since the start of the wave of fires, more than 330,000 people in southern Europe have been forced to leave their homes and hotels. Once the fires in parts of the regions around Bordeaux, Madrid and Valencia had been brought under control, the authorities began to lift some of the evacuation orders. Some residents have returned to their burnt-out homes and property.<\/p>\n<p>The European Commission has sent seven aeroplanes and four helicopters to France from various countries, including Sweden and Turkey. For Spain, six aircraft were mobilised from Greece, Italy and Turkey, as well as 134 personnel and 41 vehicles from Portugal. According to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, a Serbian Super Puma helicopter was due to arrive in Madrid on 29 July; a further 40 personnel and 18 vehicles were expected to follow.<\/p>\n<p>President of the European Commission <strong>Ursula von der Leyen<\/strong> She stated that Romania and Greece had extended their relief missions to the affected regions, and that Poland was due to join them from Saturday.<\/p>\n<h2>The fire season is getting longer<\/h2>\n<p>The EU\u2019s emergency response coordination system anticipates difficult days ahead for France and fears further outbreaks in Italy and Greece towards the end of summer. According to the European Forest Fire Information System, a record area has already been burnt in France, whilst France and Spain have recorded a record number of fires for this time of year.<\/p>\n<p>Experts attribute the more challenging conditions to recurring heatwaves, which are drying out the vegetation.
