On the M-07 Kyiv\u2013Kovel\u2013Yagodin international road, the road surface has warped due to high temperatures. The damage affects both lanes, forcing vehicles to drive round the dangerous section using the hard shoulder.<\/p>\n

Footage released by eyewitnesses shows sections of the road surface that have been lifted and displaced in the middle of the carriageway. Warning cones have been placed near the damaged section, but traffic flow remains significantly disrupted.<\/p>\n

The deformation has created a transverse \u00abbump\u00bb, which can be dangerous to drive over, particularly at high speed. Drivers in both directions are slowing down and veering partially onto the hard shoulder.<\/p>\n

The exact location of the damaged section and the timeframe for the restoration of full traffic flow have not yet been officially announced. Drivers travelling on the M-07 motorway are advised to be careful, pay attention to temporary road signs and avoid sudden manoeuvres.<\/p>\n

Main line Kyiv \u2014 Kovel<\/a> \u2014 Yagodin is of strategic importance: it links the capital with Volhynia and the Polish border, and is used for both passenger and freight transport.<\/p>\n

Why does the road surface rise in hot weather?<\/h2>\n

When exposed to prolonged heat, concrete slabs expand. If the expansion joints do not provide sufficient space, individual sections of the surface may shift and rise sharply.<\/p>\n

Similar incidents have already been reported on the M-07 motorway in the Zhytomyr region. Road maintenance workers attributed the appearance of these dangerous \u00abbumps\u00bb to the thermal expansion of the slabs during abnormal heat<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This damage is particularly dangerous for motorcyclists, lorry drivers and drivers of vehicles with low ground clearance. Driving over a raised section at speed can lead to loss of control or damage to the vehicle.<\/p>\n

The heatwave is intensifying in Ukraine<\/h2>\n

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre is forecasting hot weather on 3\u20135 August, with temperatures of 30\u201334\u00b0. In the west and south, and on 5 August across most regions, intense heat of up to 35\u201338\u00b0 is expected in places. According to some forecasts, maximum temperatures could approach 40\u00b0 during the week.<\/p>\n

As temperatures continue to rise, there remains a risk of further damage to the road surface. Drivers are advised to observe the speed limit and slow down in good time if they notice uneven surfaces, traffic cones or traffic congestion.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
