Its design capacity is around 8.5 million tonnes of crude oil per year, or approximately 170,000 barrels per day.<\/p>\n<p>The plant has been mentioned on several occasions in reports of long-range strikes. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the plant had been hit in August 2025, and in May 2026, it confirmed that operations had been halted following an attack. At the time, Reuters, citing industry sources, reported that the shutdown could last for around a month.<\/p>\n<p>In July, the Main Intelligence Directorate reported that an oil refinery had been struck once again as part of a joint deep-strike operation by the Defence Forces.<\/p>\n<h2>Explosions in the Moscow Region<\/h2>\n<p>Explosions were also heard in the Moscow Region. The regional governor reported five deaths and six people injured.<\/p>\n<p>Sizran is situated in the Samara Oblast, whilst the Moscow Oblast is a separate region of the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n<h2>What could determine the scale of the consequences for the refinery<\/h2>\n<p>The Syzran refinery is a major producer for Russia\u2019s domestic petroleum products market and fuel logistics sector. If the attack has affected key processing units, this could potentially impact the production of petrol, diesel and other refined products.<\/p>\n<p>The impact will depend on the nature of the damage and the duration of any repair work.
