The Czech Ministry of the Interior announced the change following the publication of the EU Council’s decision. The rule will also apply to certain applications relating to cohabitation and family reunification.

Briefly about the main points

The rules for new applicants come into force on 5 August 2026.

Being of conscription age does not in itself mean automatic rejection.

The Czech Ministry of the Interior plans to verify data via the «Rezerv+» app.

Other forms of evidence, whether in paper or electronic form, may also be accepted at EU level.

The current continuous protection in the Czech Republic will not be abolished.

Which applications will be considered under the new requirement?

The restriction applies to newly arrived men of conscription age. It will be applied upon their first application for temporary protection, a repeat application, as well as the submission of documents for cohabitation or family reunification.

Being of conscription age will not in itself constitute grounds for refusal. The decisive factor will be confirmation of military registration status and fulfilment of the obligations laid down by Ukrainian law.

The Council of the EU explained that the new approach was driven by the need to balance the protection of people fleeing the war with Ukraine’s defence requirements. At EU level, the criterion is also linked to confirmation that the departure from Ukraine was lawful in the context of fulfilling military obligations.

How will military registration status be verified?

Czech Ministry of the Interior reported, that applicants will confirm their military service obligations via the Ukrainian «Reserve+» app. The electronic military registration document may contain information regarding registration status, deferment, removal from the register or any other current status.

At the same time, EU regulations provide for the use of paper or electronic documents certifying the fulfilment of or exemption from military service, as well as the legality of departure from Ukraine. The Czech authorities are to publish the details of the procedure in stages on the Information Portal for Foreigners.

What will change for those who already have cover?

Ukrainians who already have valid temporary protection in the Czech Republic and who will continue to hold it without interruption once the decision comes into force are not affected by the new rules. When their status is next renewed, these men will not have to provide separate proof of having fulfilled their military service; their documents will not be automatically revoked.

The temporary protection scheme in the Czech Republic is being extended until 31 March 2028. To apply for the extension, you must complete the online registration process and then visit a Ministry of the Interior office in person to collect your new visa sticker.

According to Eurostat, at the end of April, 384,435 people in the Czech Republic were granted temporary protection. This equated to 35.2 beneficiaries per thousand of the population — the highest figure among EU countries.

Temporary protection in the Czech Republic will be extended until March 2028, but new male applicants will be subject to a check via Reserve+.

Тимчасовий захист у Чехії продовжать до березня 2028 року, але для нових заявників-чоловіків діятиме перевірка через Резерв+.
[805619
805624
post-26500","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-world","tag-805624
["GET
