Thick smoke then began to rise above the area where the oil refinery is located.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Footage posted on social media suggests that a fire has broken out on the company\u2019s premises. It is not yet known which specific installations or other facilities may have been damaged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">At the time of publication, there are no official figures regarding the extent of the fire, any possible casualties or the impact of the attack on production. Nor has it yet been reported who carried out the attack.<\/p>\n<h2>The Syzran Oil Refinery processes millions of tonnes of crude oil<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The Syzran Oil Refinery is owned by the Russian state-owned company Rosneft and forms part of the Samara Group of refineries. The plant produces petrol, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil and bitumen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">According to official figures from Rosneft, the refinery\u2019s designed capacity for primary processing is 8.5 million tonnes of crude oil per year. Some estimates put the facility\u2019s maximum annual throughput at up to 8.9 million tonnes.<\/p>\n<h2>The factory has come under attack on several occasions<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/drony-atakuvaly-syzranskyi-npz-04-08-2026\/\">Syzran Oil Refinery<\/a> have already been attacked on several occasions by long-range drones. Following the strike on 21 May 2026, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zsu.gov.ua\/news\/urazheno-komandni-punkty-lohistyku-protyvnyka-ta-pidtverdzheno-zupynku-roboty-npz-syzranskyi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Ukrainian Defence Forces have confirmed<\/a> suspension of the company\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">In early August, a fire was also reported on the factory premises following a drone attack. A new attack could further complicate the resumption of production, although it will only be possible to assess its impact once details of the damaged equipment become available.<\/p>\n<p>The defence forces are systematically carrying out strikes against Russian oil refining infrastructure, which supplies fuel to the Russian army and generates revenue for the aggressor state\u2019s
