The statement says that the United States will work with Congress to announce the administration\u2019s aid <strong>Abelardo de la Esprieylla<\/strong> to achieve our common goals.<\/p>\n<p>The US sent a delegation headed by the acting Attorney General to the inauguration ceremony <strong>Todd Blanchem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>De la Esprieella has pledged to crack down on drug gangs<\/h2>\n<p>In a 75-minute speech at the Pichincha battalion\u2019s military base in Cali de la Esprieylla, he declared that the time had come to restore \u00aborder, authority and freedom\u00bb. He told members of criminal and <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/trump-accuses-colombian-president-of-petro-drug-trade\/\">drug gangs<\/a> comply with the law or face a firm response from the state and the security forces.<\/p>\n<p>The new president has declared that the possibility of peace talks with armed groups has been completely exhausted. He also promised to eradicate illegal crops once and for all and to use aerial herbicide spraying to achieve this, which, he said, would not harm people\u2019s health or the environment.<\/p>\n<p>According to UNODC estimates, at the end of 2023, the area under coca cultivation in Colombia stood at 253,000 hectares. At the same time, aerial spraying of herbicides in the country is subject to environmental and regulatory restrictions: current regulations relate, in particular, to ground-based application, subject to additional approvals.<\/p>\n<p>During his campaign, de la Esprieylla promised to reduce the size of the civil service to 40%, revitalise the oil and gas sector, and restore confidence in the economy through austerity measures. He also stated that Colombia would join the organisation founded <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> the Shield of the Americas programme.<\/p>\n<p>The president can adopt some decisions by decree, but for many reforms he will need the support of a divided Congress. The World Bank estimated the country\u2019s GDP growth at 2.6% for 2025 and forecast 2.2% for 2026, citing fiscal risks and weak investment.<\/p>\n<h2>Sepeda led a march in Barranquilla<\/h2>\n<p>De la Esprieella defeated the left-wing senator in the second round in June <strong>Ivana Sepeda<\/strong>, an ally of the former president <strong>Gustavo Petro<\/strong>. Petro did not recognise the election results, whilst the new head of state had previously accused him of strengthening armed groups.<\/p>\n<p>On the day of his inauguration, Sepeda led a morning march in Barranquilla.
