Such a range would make it possible to strike targets on US territory, although the Iranian government and military command have not officially confirmed these plans.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\"><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An Iranian cleric has announced that missiles with a range of up to 15,000 kilometres are being developed.<\/li>\n<li>In theory, this range would be sufficient to strike targets on US territory.<\/li>\n<li>The statement was made by a preacher, not by a representative of the Iranian government or military command.<\/li>\n<li>There have been no official reports regarding the development or testing of such a missile.<\/li>\n<li>Iran\u2019s known ballistic missiles have a stated range of up to 2,000 kilometres in most cases.<\/li>\n<li>Developing a system with a range of 15,000 kilometres would mean Iran\u2019s transition to intercontinental ballistic missiles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>A missile with a range of 15,000 km could reach the US<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">He commented on the likely increase in the range of Iranian missiles, stating that <strong>Abdolnabi Musavifard<\/strong> \u2014 the leader of Friday prayers in the city of Ahvaz. He made this statement on 7 August during his sermon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">According to the cleric, Iran is allegedly preparing to develop weapons with a range of up to 15,000 kilometres. He linked this to the possibility of striking deep into the territory of the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Musavifard\u2019s statement is quoted as follows <em><strong>Iran International<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Times of India<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">At the same time, Musavifard is not a representative of the Iranian Ministry of Defence or the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. His comments should therefore not be regarded as an official announcement of a new missile programme.<\/p>\n<h2>The Iranian military has not confirmed that it is developing<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">As of 11 August, Iranian government and military bodies had not reported the development of a missile with the claimed range. Nor is there any information regarding its name, design, engine type, warhead or any tests carried out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Well-known <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/science-tech\/iranski-balistychni-rakety-ukraina\/\">Iranian ballistic missiles<\/a> have a significantly shorter range. The stated range of the \u00abHorremshahr\u00bb family of systems is around 2,000 kilometres. This is sufficient to strike targets in the Middle East and certain parts of Europe, but not on US territory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Therefore, a missile with a range of 15,000 kilometres would have a range approximately seven times greater than that of Iran\u2019s best-known combat systems.<\/p>\n<h2>We would be talking about an intercontinental ballistic missile<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Ballistic missiles with a range of over 5,500 kilometres are classified as intercontinental. Developing a system with a range of 15,000 kilometres would require a significant technological breakthrough on Iran\u2019s part.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Such weapons require powerful multi-stage engines, a warhead capable of withstanding extremely high temperatures, a precise guidance system and technologies for traversing the atmosphere at intercontinental speeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Iran has a space programme and experience in launching multi-stage launch vehicles. Certain technologies used in such launch vehicles may be utilised in the development of intercontinental systems; however, this does not confirm the existence of a combat-ready missile.<\/p>\n<h2>Iran may draw on North Korea\u2019s experience<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Iran\u2019s missile programme has historically been developed with the involvement of foreign technology. In particular, the Shahab-3 missile was based on the North Korean Nodong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The US Defence Intelligence Agency has previously reported on cooperation between Iran and North Korea in the field of ballistic missiles. North Korea has already tested intercontinental systems capable, in theory, of reaching the US mainland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Experts therefore do not rule out the possibility that Iran could draw on North Korean expertise for its future missile. At the same time, there is currently no evidence that Tehran has been provided with ready-made technology for a missile with a range of 15,000 kilometres.<\/p>\n<p>For the time being, Musavifard\u2019s statement remains a political threat rather than confirmation that Iran possesses an intercontinental ballistic missile. To assess its actual capabilities, official data, test results or independent satellite observations are
