Meanwhile, on the night of 12 August, drones damaged two other large grain terminals at the port, which have ceased operations. Reuters found no signs of damage to the CPC or to the tankers collecting oil from it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"news-summary-box\">\n<p><strong>Briefly about the main points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vens raised the issue of the tankers with Zelenskyy during their conversation on 31 July.<\/li>\n<li>The agreement covers the CPC and non-Russian vessels carrying Kazakhstani oil.<\/li>\n<li>Vessels subject to sanctions and ships carrying Russian cargo are not subject to the restrictions.<\/li>\n<li>In Novorossiysk, the Novorossiysk Grain Terminal and NKHP have suspended operations.<\/li>\n<li>The Russian authorities have reported two deaths and 13 injuries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The agreement with the US concerns the CPC and certain tankers<\/h2>\n<p>The Financial Times, citing Ukrainian officials and informed sources, reported that the US Vice-President <strong>JD Vance<\/strong> asked the president <strong>Vladimir Zelensky<\/strong> not to attack non-Russian <strong>tankers near Novorossiysk<\/strong>. The conversation took place on 31 July, and since then Ukraine has not carried out any strikes against vessels near the consortium\u2019s maritime terminal.<\/p>\n<p>The restriction applies to CPC facilities and non-Russian vessels transporting oil from Kazakhstan. It does not apply to vessels subject to Ukrainian sanctions, nor to those transporting Russian oil or other cargoes from the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n<p>A senior Ukrainian official told the FT that Kyiv is heeding the advice of its American partners and has put appropriate mechanisms in place. An American official confirmed to the newspaper that Washington had urged Ukraine not to attack these vessels or the consortium\u2019s infrastructure.<\/p>\n<h2>Two grain processing plants have halted operations following a night-time attack<\/h2>\n<p>On the night of 12 August, the following were damaged <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/ataka-droniv-novorosiisk-nkhp-elevator\/\">Novorossiysk Grain Terminal<\/a> and the Novorossiysk Bakery Products Plant. Operations at both facilities have been suspended.<\/p>\n<p>The Novorossiysk grain terminal is owned by Demetra Holding and has an export capacity of around 8.5 million tonnes per year. A company spokesperson confirmed the damage and said that the company is assessing the consequences of the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Three industry sources have confirmed the shutdown of the NKHP terminal, which has an annual export capacity of approximately 7.1 million tonnes. The terminal\u2019s main owner, the United Grain Company, has also reported the damage and stated that none of its employees were injured.<\/p>\n<p>The combined export capacity of the two complexes exceeds 15 million tonnes of grain per year. Novorossiysk is one of the key routes for the export of Russian grain via the Black Sea.<\/p>\n<h2>The KTK was not affected; the Russian authorities reported casualties<\/h2>\n<p>There were no signs of damage to the CPC terminal or to the tankers collecting oil from it. The consortium transports oil from Kazakhstan to the Black Sea coast and accounts for around 2% of global supply; Chevron and ExxonMobil are involved in the project.<\/p>\n<p>In July, attacks near the terminal reduced oil shipments by more than 20%. During this period, the international market was short of approximately 400,000 barrels per day, whilst production in Kazakhstan was 14% lower than in June.<\/p>\n<p>An air raid alert was declared in Novorossiysk on the evening of 11 August, and the explosions and activity of the Russian air defence systems continued for several hours. The Governor of the Krasnodar Krai <strong>Veniamin Kondratiev<\/strong> described the attack as a large-scale one and reported two fatalities, including an eight-year-old child, and 13 people injured. The Russian side also reported damage to four industrial facilities and 21 residential buildings.
