On the night of 14 August, Russian forces attacked Smila in the Cherkasy region with a strike drone loaded with shrapnel. The drone struck a flat on one of the upper floors of a nine-storey residential block. The strike caused a fire in one of the building\u2019s entrances and resulted in significant damage. Ambulance crews treated five people. The injured refused to be taken to hospital.<\/p>\n

A drone carrying shrapnel struck a high-rise block<\/h2>\n

According to the head of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration Ihor Taburets<\/strong>, a Russian UAV was loaded with shrapnel and struck a residential high-rise block directly.<\/p>\n

The residents of the flat that was at the centre of the strike were not at home at the time of the attack. However, the explosion and fire damaged one of the building\u2019s entrance halls.<\/p>\n

Medical staff treated five people who had been injured. All of the injured were examined at the scene, but they declined to be admitted to hospital.<\/p>\n

Rescue workers evacuated ten residents<\/h2>\n

A fire broke out in the nine-storey block following the impact. Units from the State Emergency Service arrived promptly at the scene and rescued ten people from the damaged building.<\/p>\n

Firefighters put out the fire and inspected the premises. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service worked with the building\u2019s residents and provided support to 23 people who were suffering from stress following the attack.<\/p>\n

A total of 47 rescue workers and 17 pieces of specialist equipment were deployed to deal with the aftermath of the Russian strike.<\/p>\n

Bomb disposal experts inspected the site of the impact<\/h2>\n

Once the fire had been extinguished, bomb disposal experts searched the area around the high-rise building for explosive devices and drone debris.<\/p>\n

Emergency and municipal services are continuing to work at the scene. Experts are inspecting the damaged structures and assessing the extent of the repair work required.
