Reuters has established that almost half of the models on the platform were developed by Chinese companies against which the US administration has raised security concerns or imposed restrictions. The White House has stated that there is no conflict of interest.

Briefly about the main points

WorldClaw charges USD1 for access to AI models.

43 out of 90 models were developed by Chinese companies against which the US has lodged complaints.

The Trump family owns 38% World Liberty Financial.

Reuters has not ascertained the financial terms of the deal between the two companies.

The platform can pass user input on to model providers.

How a crypto token links the two companies

WorldClaw accepts USD1 and other cryptocurrencies as payment for its services. World Liberty generates revenue from the use of USD1: the stablecoin is backed by traditional assets, including US Treasury bonds, to maintain a stable value. The Trump family is entitled to a share of the interest income from these assets.

The Trump family owns 38% World Liberty and derives income from the sale or use of its tokens — the USD1 stablecoin and the $WLFI governance token. Reuters was unable to ascertain the terms of the financial arrangements between World Liberty and WorldClaw, nor the amount of the family’s income from crypto payments on the platform.

Companies against which the US has made allegations

Of the 90 models available on the WorldClaw website, 43 were developed by Alibaba, Baidu, Z.ai and other Chinese technology companies, which the US administration considers a risk to national security or intellectual property. The platform also offers dozens of models from the US-based companies OpenAI and Anthropic.

The US Department of Defence has designated Alibaba and Baidu as Chinese companies with links to the military; this prohibits the Pentagon from doing business with them. Z.ai, formerly Zhipu AI, has been added to the Entity List by the Department of Commerce, which significantly restricts its access to US technology. The government list states that the company contributes to China’s military modernisation through the development and integration of cutting-edge research in the field of AI.

The DeepSeek models are also available on WorldClaw, and Moonshot, which officials in the Trump administration recently accused of stealing intellectual property from American competitors. Alibaba, Baidu and Z.ai have contested the US government’s assessments, whilst the Chinese government has denied the allegations of technology theft. The use of these models by individuals and businesses in the US is generally lawful.

Public promotion and explanations by the parties

Ryan Fang, Head of Growth at World Liberty, served as an external adviser to WorldClaw on matters relating to the distribution of USD1, partnerships and expanding global access to AI services. A spokesperson for WorldClaw described his role as purely advisory.

The president’s sons, who are co-founders of World Liberty, have publicly promoted WorldClaw on the social media platform X. In May, Donald Trump Jr wrote that he would meet the winners of the WorldClaw competition at Mar-a-Lago, whilst Eric Trump described the collaboration as «the future of finance». The President retains ownership of the family business through a trust, whilst Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump run the Trump Organisation.

WorldClaw describes itself as an independent company and states that World Liberty and its affiliates do not manage or control the service. A spokesperson for World Liberty stated that major US companies also provide access to both Chinese and US models, describing this as a common practice. WorldClaw added that the availability of a model does not imply endorsement by its developer. White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated that there is no conflict of interest in this relationship.

Scope of the service and data disclaimers

The WorldRouter tool aggregates access to various models. According to WorldClaw, it has over 10,000 users who send more than 50 million queries every day. The company is also developing an AI agent app for personal tasks, such as ordering food and summarising emails.

Daniel Remler, a senior research fellow at the Centre for a New American Security, stated that Chinese models may carry risks of monitoring by the Chinese authorities, censorship of responses, or the introduction of malicious code capable of taking control of AI agents. The WorldClaw website states that the company may pass on data entered by users to model providers. A spokesperson for the service stated that the platform implements privacy and security measures.

World Liberty generates revenue from the use of USD1, which can be used to pay for AI models on WorldClaw.
