He stated that Ukrainians and Belarusians are bound together by \u00abage-old traditions\u00bb, the memory of shared victories and severe trials.<\/p>\n<p>Lukashenko expressed his confidence that future generations would maintain \u00abfriendly and family ties\u00bb despite geopolitical upheavals. He also stated that Belarus is open to Ukrainians who come with good intentions, and wished Ukraine peace and happiness, and its citizens good health and prosperity.<\/p>\n<h2>Belarusian territory served as a springboard for the Russian offensive<\/h2>\n<p>In February 2022, Russia used Belarusian territory as one of its staging grounds for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian units advanced from there into the northern regions and towards Kyiv. Lukashenko allowed Moscow to use Belarusian territory to deploy its troops.<\/p>\n<p>The Council of the EU specifically noted that Minsk had allowed Russia to launch ballistic missiles from Belarus, to move troops and heavy weaponry, and to use its airspace and infrastructure to support Russian forces.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ukrmedia.news\/en\/world\/rf-perekidaie-viyska-bilorus-nastup\/\">Military cooperation<\/a> The sanctions against Belarus and Russia remain in place. In July 2026, the EU imposed new restrictions on Belarusian entities which, according to Brussels, support the defence and security sectors of Belarus or Russia.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2026, Ukraine imposed sanctions against Lukashenko.
